Audit Senior/Semi Senior

The Role

As a member of the audit team you will be the first point of contact for the client during fieldwork and will be responsible for your own and your assistant’s audit file sections.  You will be expected to help train your assistants and make them feel at ease on what may be their first on-site visit.  The role is that of an audit senior and, if you are a semi-senior, you will be supported by the manager while you settle into this new position.  Your manager will organise visits, attend site where needed, help you overcome any new challenges and provide the training that you require to be able to smoothly transition into your new responsibilities.

Your role may also involve a variety of other accounting services including the preparation of statutory accounts, however prior experience in this is not considered necessary.  In your role audits will be your priority and will make up the majority of your working year.

All aspects of this role involve liaising with managers and clients and prioritising workload to ensure that client deadlines and needs are met.  A flexible working approach is required and a willingness to assist with any accounting assignments necessary to meet clients’ expectations and maintain client service levels.

Job description

Your hours will be 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday) usually worked from 8.30am to 5.00pm.  These hours can be varied under our a flexible hours policy.

You will be based at our Nottingham Office as many of our audits are conducted remotely.  However, at times you will be required to spend time working at client premises.

As an Audit Senior your role will include

  • Leading the audit team on all audits undertaken (supported by your manager while you gain confidence and experience)
  • Identifying any weaknesses in client systems and making recommendations for improvements
  • External audit assignments from planning stage through to audit fieldwork and completion ready for manager review
  • Preparation of draft accounts and review disclosures in reference to the applicable checklist
  • Preparation of statutory accounts from analysis of client records to producing final accounts on Iris accounts production
  • Preparation of corporation tax computations
  • Preparation of monthly/quarterly management accounts both in the office and at clients premises
  • Finalising of accounts and drafting of letters to send out to clients
  • Contacting clients to ensure that accounting records are received on time.

Person specifications

Essential

  • Audit experience in general practice with prior exposure to higher risk areas of the file, including debtors and creditors (complete sections)
  • A good audit and accounts technical knowledge
  • Experience of dealing directly with clients
  • A good knowledge of Excel
  • Able to work under pressure and have a flexible approach to working
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • A strong team player
  • Approachable and willing to learn as well as to train others
  • Good organisational skills
  • Have (or be studying for) a relevant accounting qualification (eg ACA, ACCA)

Desirable

  • Full UK driving licence
