Brandon Smith – Tax Trainee

I started at Botham Accounting in the midst of the pandemic.  I knew training was something that was going to be affected.  However, with constant consideration from management, I was given the support I needed to decide on my training route through the ATT and CTA.   I was given the option to work from home and to come into the office for the necessary exposure to succeed, this means I have been able to find a good balance in undertaking my duties and finding the time to absorb what I am learning.   Regarding the nature of the work itself and the development this encourages, I never find myself short of work that is interesting and varied to anything I have previously worked on.  Particularly, the responsibility of tasks given such as my involvement in the Construction Industry Scheme has proven that Botham Accounting sees my worth.

I always feel encouraged and supported to push myself in my work too.  My manager, Angela, makes sure that I’m involved in tasks which can be difficult, but necessary for my future undertaking of the CTA.   A few months ago, Andrew challenged me to attempt a modelling of the personal tax system in Excel which could be used for one of our clients.  This was also difficult, but somewhat enjoyable and provided a great eureka moment when I finally understood what I needed to do.  Basically, the no-limits approach to training that Botham Accounting offers, allows you to only be limited by your own willingness to learn.

I have also felt looked after at Botham Accounting, from the support I offered even before I joined to the daily calls I receive as we all work remotely, helping me feel welcomed and part of the team.  I look forward to the social events that have been rumoured to happen once the pandemic is in its decline…

Not your typical accountancy firm.

We are always recruiting for the right person with roles available in accounting and tax but also in a variety of other disciplines.

We are a young team of intelligent and vibrant people who pride ourselves on being IT savvy and producing a high quality level of work. We are a very sociable team and have regular team social events away from the office.

At Botham Accounting we support you choosing the areas of the business you feel would best suit your skills and the aspects of the business that you would like to progress in. We welcome you being self-motivated and taking responsibility for your role, adapting it to best suit your knowledge and expertise. You can even devise your own training plan with support from us.

We want you to feel empowered every day that you come to work. We know that our staff are the key to our success.

We are a registered training office for the ICAEW and support and nurture our team members whilst they work towards their qualifications.

If you choose a job at Botham Accounting you can expect to work closely with our managers and to gain the opportunity to work on high level cases with our wide range of high level clients. We are client focused and offer a one to one level of support for our client base – none of our staff are desk bound.
